Japonlar, dış uzayda güneş enerjisi santrali kuracak, santralin üreteceği enerji lazer veya mikrodalga olarak yeryüzüne nakledilecek.
Hükümet, bu “fütürist” santralin kurulabilmesi için kolları sıvadı ve 2030′a doğru dünya yörüngesinde güneş santrali kurulmasına ilişkin projeye katılacak firma ve kurumları belirledi.Japan is developing a giant solar power space generator that it expects to begin transmitting solar energy to earth from an orbit 36,000km above the earth’s within the next 30 years.
The $21bn (£13bn) government-backed project includes plans for the construction of a solar space station comprising four square kilometres of solar panels with a total capacity of 1GW – enough to supply about 294,000 homes in Tokyo, according to a statement posted yesterday on the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry web site. Hümanoid (insansı) robot yaratma yolunda bugüne kadar önemli aşamalar kaydeden mühendisler, şimdi insan iskeletinin anatomisine uygun bir ‘kemik yapısı’na sahip robot üzerinde çalışıyor.
Their project, the Eccerobot, has been designed to duplicate the way human bones, muscles and tendons work and are linked together. The plastic bones copy biological shapes and are moved by kite-line that is tough like tendons, while elastic cords mimic the bounce of muscle.

İngiltere’deki Hertfordshire Üniversitesi’nde devam eden çalışmalarla geleceğin evlerinin nasıl daha güvenli ve çevreci evlerinin olacağını araştırılıyor.
İntelHome adı verilen projede oyuncak bir eve kızılötesi sensörler yerleştirildi ve sensörler bir network üzerinen tek bir merkezi bilgisayara bağlandı.

Yeni geliştirilen bir sistem sayesinde çok kısa süre sonra bilgisayarlar, cep telefonları ve televizyonlar prize ihtiyaç duymadan hem kullanılabilecek hem de şarj edilebilecek. Fizik dünyasında yeni bir devrin başlangıcı olarak kabul edilen bu teknoloji, ABD’den WiTricity firması tarafından geliştirildi. Elektriği kablosuz olarak havadan ileten bu teknoloji, boşta duran bir ampülün yanmasını sağlarken bilgisayarın da durmadan çalışmasına imkan veriyor.

Hitachi Boosts Energy Density of Li-ion Battery for Hybrids
Hitachi Ltd and Hitachi Vehicle Energy Ltd announced May 19, 2009, that they developed a lithium-ion rechargeable battery with an enhanced power density of 4,500W/kg for use in hybrid electric vehicles.
The new battery uses prismatic cells, which the company positions as the fourth-generation product. The cell measures 120 x 90 x 18mm. And it has a current capacity of 4.8Ah, an average voltage of 3.6V and an energy density of 72Wh/kg. The companies will start shipping samples for auto makers, etc in fall 2009. (dahası…)
